There are several methods of presenting data. Some of the methods are:
•Graphs
•Bar Diagrams
•Pie charts
•Frequency distribution
•Stem and leaf display
All these methods effectively display the data. Graphs are said to be “always superior than diagrams” as they present data quite effectively whereas Bar diagrams can be used to present quality data , while the Pie charts can be used for comparing categories with the whole and the stem and leaf display and frequency distribution can simplify complicated data. they present data quite effectively whereas Bar diagrams can be used to present quality data , while the Pie charts can be used for comparing categories with the whole and the stem and leaf display and frequency distribution can simplify complicated data. they present data quite effectively whereas Bar diagrams can be used to present quality data , while the Pie charts can be used for comparing categories with the whole and the stem and leaf display and frequency distribution can simplify complicated data.
I think all these methods have their own qualities and the decision that which method is best, firstly depends upon the type of data and then the researcher (how he or she wants to present the data) as different individuals have different preferences.
In frequency distribution, complicated raw data can be organized through tabulation, by making classes, class boundaries , frequency and cumulative frequency and In stem and leaf display each value is separated into two parts the first digit is called stem and the last digit(s) is called leaf . Stem and leaf display is an alternative of frequency distribution, it was introduced by J.W. Turkey in 1977
Frequency distribution summarizes a large amount of data through tables. It describes all types of variables as well as facilitates in graphic presentation as well whereas stem and leaf display tells you about the exact values rather than the values falling between a specific class interval (as in frequency distribution) .But still stem and leaf display is only used by the researcher when he is taking a first look at the experimental data as in the final stages of the research, the data is presented by the researcher through frequency distribution.
